PIA has received a response from MetLife to our letter sent on July 12 to Steven A. Kandarian, President and Chief Executive Officer of MetLife, Inc. In that letter, PIA National President Fred Thomas along with the presidents of PIA of Washington and Oregon expressed concerns and raised questions about the MetLife-GM pilot program.

In the 60-day pilot program started on July 6 in the two states, Washington and Oregon, GM provides automobile insurance coverage from MetLife to customers who purchase or lease selected new 2010, 2011, or 2012 GM vehicles.

The MetLife response letter dated July 26 came from Paul A. Lonneman, Senior Vice President. It is attached here along with an accompanying FAQ that MetLife also sent which is intended to better inform PIA members about the program, especially those in the two pilot states. PIA National is continuing its discussions with MetLife. In addition, PIA National has had a meeting with Robert (Bobby) M. Wallach, CEO of In-the-Car, Inc., which has developed and patented the program being used in the pilot by GM and MetLife. Previously, In-the-Car was also involved in the VW-Nationwide program in 2005. These discussions will also continue.

As always, PIA National will continue to provide further updates and materials, as they become available.
