PIA National Immediate Past President Jon Spalding has passed along this video link of his congressman, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), commenting on the effect of medical loss ratios (MLRs) on health insurance agents and brokers during a recent a hearing of the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee. While questioning an Obama administration official, Rogers said health insurance agents and brokers will continue to be in a "desperate situation" unless the House changes medical loss ratio (MLR) determinations that are depressing their compensation and causing "an immediate jobs crisis in our communities." Rogers is the sponsor of H.R. 1206, the Access to Professional Health Insurance Advisors Act of 2011, a bill that would exclude producer compensation from MLR calculations. Rogers' bill has 90 cosponsors. PIA has endorsed H.R. 1206 and appreciates the efforts of Rep. Rogers to assist insurance agents on this issue.
