Leaders of PIA of Virginia & D.C. met with former Sen. George Allen (R-Va.), who is running to recapture the seat he lost in the 2006 election. The meeting took place June 9 at the PIA National headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.

A self-described "Common Sense Jeffersonian Conservative," Allen had the distinction of holding Thomas Jefferson's seat in the Virginia General Assembly. Later, he served as governor before being elected to the Senate in 2000. In his recently released book, What Washington Can Learn from the World of Sports, he presents solutions that can work to put people across America in a position to compete and succeed in achieving their dreams.

"One of the best memories of PIA's annual Federal Legislative Summit a few years ago were the reports we'd receive from our PIA of Virginia delegation," said PIA National Executive Vice President & CEO Leonard C. Brevik. "The Virginia delegation would tell us that they met with a Senator who knows our issues, shares our views, and is responsive to our concerns. That Senator was George Allen."

PIA VA & D.C. President Gerald Hemphill praised Allen for meeting with agents and engaging in open communication and a detailed exchange of ideas. "I've communicated more in the last eight minutes than I have in the last six years of coming to Washington," he said.

In addition to Hemphill, Principal of G.F.H. Insurance in Richmond, members of PIA VA & D.C. who met with Sen. Allen included PIA National Secretary/Treasurer Johnny Lee, owner, Lee-Curtis Insurance of Fredericksburg; Bob Reilly, President, Ashcraft Associates Insurance Agency of Alexandria; Louise Cornell, Agency Manager, Ashcraft Associates Insurance Agency of Alexandria; Ken Daveler, President, Alliance Insurance Services of Washington, D.C., a resident of Stafford; and Dennis Yocom, executive vice president of PIA of VA & D.C.  PIA National Executive Vice President & CEO Len Brevik; Director of Federal Affairs Mike Becker; and Senior Vice President Ted Besesparis also attended the meeting.
