Don Suhr and his son Mark Suhr held a celebration at their Seward, Nebraska insurance agency last Friday. They were celebrating a major milestone – Don’s 50 years in the insurance business. Don Suhr of Suhr & Lichty is profiled in Nebraska newspaper in celebration of 50 years in business.

Don had never sold an insurance policy when he bought into an insurance business owned by Paul Hafemeister in 1962, becoming a partner in what has evolved into the Suhr & Lichty Insurance Agency of today.

Being a people person, Don said a lot of the insurance business has come pretty naturally to him and he has augmented that through involvement in PIA at the state and national levels. “As a company we see the benefit of being involved,” Suhr said. “We’re not afraid to give our time and talents for the betterment of the insurance industry.”

During his involvement with PIA of Nebraska and PIA National, Don Suhr distinguished himself as one of the nation’s top experts in crop insurance. Don’s son Mark Suhr has followed in his father’s footsteps at the agency and in PIA, where he serves on the PIA National Crop Insurance Working Group. Mark is also on the cutting edge in the use of social media to build his agency. In 2011, he received the PIA National Excellence in Social Media Award.

“Without a doubt, Suhr & Lichty Insurance Agency is a quintessential PIA agency, personifying our motto, ‘Local Agents Serving Main Street America,’” said PIA National President Thomas C. Adderhold and CEO Leonard C. Brevik, in a letter of congratulations. “PIA looks forward to your agency being on the leading edge for the next 50 years.”

The Seward County Independent profiled Don Suhr in a recent article.
