Hartford Financial Services Inc. said its Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Liam E. McGee has returned to work Jan. 14 after undergoing successful surgery to remove a small brain tumor.

McGee had shown no symptoms previously and post-surgical tests have confirmed that the tumor, which was in an “easily accessible location on the brain,” was completely removed, the company said.

“The good news is that the tumor was identified early and the procedure went well,” McGee said in a statement. “I am feeling great, as well as quite fortunate. I have had no side effects from the surgery or the tumor itself. I have been working from home and will be back in the office on Monday, fully performing my normal duties. In an abundance of caution, the doctors and I have agreed on a low-dose chemotherapy and radiation treatment and we expect minimal side effects.”

McGee told Hartford employees about the tumor in a Jan. 11 letter. A company spokesman says McGee is still planning to attend the Joint Industry Forum in New York this week. The Hartford is a member of The PIA Partnership.
