Oregon Insurance Commissioner Lou Savage is stepping down to undertake democracy-building initiatives in Tunisia. Laura Cali, the division’s top actuary, has been selected to replace Savage by Patrick Allen, head of the Department of Consumer and Business Services. Cali will be the youngest insurance commissioner in the country at age 31, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). “I’m really looking forward to having an opportunity to lead the division. The work that we do is really important. I’m very focused on protecting consumers and helping shed light on some of the complexity of the insurance industry and having people feel confident that they can trust what they’re buying. I can’t think of a better place to work,” Cali said.
