Marguerite Salazar, a former U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) director, has been appointed as the new state insurance commissioner in Colorado. Salazar was largely responsible for implementing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in states throughout the Rocky Mountain region. Among her first duties will be further development of the state’s healthcare insurance exchange, Connect for Health Colorado, which will begin enrollment on Oct. 1. Gov. John Hickenlooper (D), who announced the appointment, said Salazar will start her new job on Aug. 19.
