The Maine Bureau of Insurance received a recommendation from the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) to reduce workers’ compensation rates in the state by an average of 7.7 percent. Employers could save $15.2 million this coming year due to a reduction in on-the-job injuries and the ability of the state workers’ comp board to control medical costs. State Superintendent of Insurance Eric Cioppa says the proposed rate decrease is “very good news. Most states, it's my understanding, are not seeing decreases.” The proposed rates would take effect April 1.
