Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak reminds consumers that as they prepare to celebrate the holiday season, they should consider reviewing their insurance policies to avoid potential problems. For instance, motorists can talk with their agent or insurance company to find out if their auto coverage extends to a friend or family member's car or vehicle. A standard homeowners' policy typically provides coverage for such things as stolen holiday decorations and presents, subject to policy deductible and coverage limits. However, if the loss is around or below the deductible, it is best to pay the claim out-of-pocket. Although a company cannot cancel, up-rate, or non-renew a policyholder for filing the first claim, they can after two claims, says Doak.
