Insurance regulators in California, Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina and Maine recently reported that a total of more than $125 million in funds was recovered for consumers last year.

More than $63.7 million was recovered in California, with State Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones noting, “As the leader of the largest consumer protection agency in the state, I’m proud we were able to assist so many consumers last year.” Georgia’s recoveries topped $9.3 million last year, which State Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens says is money that consumers “might not have received” otherwise. Maine Insurance Superintendent Eric Cioppa says that the nearly $2 million recovered in his state is associated with “contested claims that likely would not have been paid without the intervention of Bureau staff.” Insurance regulators in Ohio and North Carolina recovered $23.5 million and more than $27.2 million, respectively.
