A unit of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. plans to sell insurance directly to businesses over the Internet. Berkshire Hathaway Direct Insurance Co. will initially focus on workers’ compensation and business owners’ package policies, A.M. Best said last week in a statement announcing that it had assigned the A++ grade to the company. Insurers typically require such ratings to begin operations. The move paves the way for Berkshire Chairman Warren Buffett to expand his company’s insurance operations. Its Geico unit was a pioneer in direct sales and is now the No. 2 auto insurer in the U.S.
