It was eleven years ago, on August 29, 2005, when Hurricane Katrina made landfall and struck the city of New Orleans, creating massive destruction after key levees broke, flooding large sections of the city.

Several PIA agencies were destroyed in the hurricane and PIA members lost their homes; some even lost members of their families.

PIA’s Richie Clements, a native of New Orleans, survived Katrina but it upended his life as it devastated his community. Through it all, his first priority after the safety of his own family was helping his insureds.

Richie told the story of how his city was devastated by Katrina and ultimately survived in a landmark series of articles and videos produced last year by the National Underwriter in cooperation with PIA National.
