September is National Preparedness Month and the perfect opportunity to reach out to property owners for an insurance checkup. You can talk to policyholders and prospects about flood insurance and the risks they could face. Flooding is the nation’s No. 1 natural disaster, and anywhere it rains, it can flood.

Tools to Help You Communicate Flood Risk

Agents.FloodSmart.gov offers tools for agents that include:

•           Agent Field Guide — quick reference for tips and talking points

•           Flood after Fire Widget, Hurricane Widget, Levee Simulator Tool, or Flood Risk Scenarios Tool —interactive tools that you can embed on your website to illustrate flood risks

•           Fact Sheets — handouts that explain flood risk

•           Social Media Messages — flood messaging to share online

Just because an area hasn’t flooded in the past doesn’t mean that it won’t flood in the future. Remind your clients of the 30-day waiting period before a flood insurance policy goes into effect. Have the flood talk sooner rather than later.

Tools to Help Your Client Prepare for Flooding

You can also help your clients prepare for flooding by using these tools on your website, on social media, or in person:

•           Before a Flood Infographic

•           During a Flood Infographic

•           Flood Preparation and Safety Brochure

•           Consumer Checklist

•           Business Checklist

Your clients will appreciate your proactive approach to making sure they protect what matters.

Practice What You Preach

Use National Preparedness Month to make sure your agency is prepared for flooding and other disasters. Create a plan so that you, and your agency, are ready.
