AAA Mid-Atlantic says October, November, and December are the months during which most animal collisions occur, and those collisions can lead to serious damage to vehicles, cause total losses, and lead to personal injury.

“Motorists need to be extra vigilant, no matter what road they travel, but especially those on rural, wooded roads and during commuting times, which coincide with high times of deer activity,” said Ken Grant, manager of public and government affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic.

Officials recommend that drivers be vigilant for animal movement, especially in the early morning or evening hours when animals are most active. Use high beams when there is no traffic, slow down around curves, use the car horn in one long blast, use brakes and do not swerve, wear a seatbelt, and never go near wounded animals that are blocking traffic.
