Researchers from the University of California at Berkeley and Deutsche Telekom AG have created an app called MyShake which uses a smartphone’s motion sensor to detect earthquakes. The researchers hope to build a global network that could warn users before earthquakes strike. MyShake can be downloaded for free from Google’s Play store, and an iPhone app is also planned, Deutsche Telekom said.
