Many universities were forced to cancel or reschedule college football games because of Hurricane Matthew. The schools avoided losing millions in lost revenue through game cancellation insurance which provides coverage during severe weather. Lloyd’s of London covered the University of Florida when it was forced to postpone its home game against Louisiana State University due to the storm. In 2014, the school used its policy to cover $1.8 million in lost revenue. Most policies cover the home team since they bear the greater loss, but hotel stays, food and transportation expenses may also be covered for home teams if the rescheduled game is played elsewhere, depending upon the insurer.
