Aon reports that violent storms hitting the United States in December will cost more than $4 billion in damages, about 50 percent of which would be covered by insurers. Missouri, Texas, Illinois, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and Indiana were among the hardest-hit.

The United States accounted for 60 percent of global insured losses in 2015, due to extreme weather patterns and high property values. The Mississippi Valley and the Midwest experienced more than 50 tornado touchdowns and historic levels of flooding, the insurance broker said in its latest report.
