America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) is urging Senate Republicans to keep the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) guarantee of coverage for pre-existing conditions, as they craft a “repeal and replace” bill for the ACA.

“We believe that core insurance market reforms that guarantee access to affordable coverage for those with pre-existing conditions should be retained, including guaranteed issue, community rating, and barring pre-existing condition exclusions,” AHIP Chief Executive Officer Marilyn Tavenner wrote in the letter to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). Tavenner also renewed a call for continued funding for the cost-sharing program which reduced deductibles and co-pays, which AHIP said is critical for ensuring stability in the individual market.
