The Hartford Home Fire Index finds the top five cities at risk for home fires are Detroit, Mich.; Shreveport, La.; Boston, Mass.; Flint, Mich.; and Richmond, Virginia. The bottom five cities on the list are Marietta, Ga.; Corpus Christi, Texas; Spring Valley, Nev.; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Glendale, Arizona. A home fire is reported every 86 seconds in the United States, as people leave their kitchens while cooking, leave candles burning unattended, and charge phones overnight. The Hartford says 33 percent of home fires are started by children between the ages of six and nine. It also says charging a phone overnight is a moderate fire risk.
