WASHINGTON, April 8, 2003 - Paul Monacelli, CIC, CPIA, was named PIA National 2003 Professional Agent of the Year during an awards luncheon on April 5 in Arlington, Virginia. Monacelli is CEO of ADP/Statewide Insurance Agencies of Cedar Knolls, New Jersey.

Monacelli was honored for his hard work, his commitment to professionalism in his industry and his dedication to his community.

"This year's winner embodies the attributes to which all of us aspire," said PIA National President Carl G. Stoecklin. "Our winner built an agency the hard way, from scratch. He is a tireless advocate for PIA. He has sponsored many insurance agents as prospective PIA members. But our winner does even more -- not just for the neighbors in his town, but also for people across the globe. Paul Monacelli is truly one of PIA's best."

A member of PIA of New Jersey since 1991, Monacelli served as president-elect in 1998-99 and as president of the state association in 1999-2000. He is active with the association, serving on numerous committees. Monacelli is currently Chairman of the PIANJ Auto Insurance Task Force. He also serves on the agent advisory councils of Travelers, Encompass and Selective insurance companies.

A Vietnam veteran, Monacelli is a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves and last served as Commander of the 304th Civil Affairs Brigade in Philadelphia, Pa. In 1994, Monacelli was deployed to Rwanda, Africa, where he served as Chief of Civil Military Operations for the humanitarian aid mission, Operation Support Hope. For thisservice he was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal. In 1996, he was deployed to Zaire, Africa for another humanitarian aid mission, Operation Guardian Assistance. Monacelli also served as Mayor of the city of Orange, New Jersey.

As he accepted the award, Monacelli asked PIA members to remember the American service members who are in Iraq.

"Half a world away there are a lot of young men and women who are taking on a much harder task than anything we're doing here today," he said. "So I'd ask you to take a moment of your time today, and either give a thought or a prayer for all of our service people who are fighting on our behalf. God bless America."

Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses.
