WASHINGTON, September 9,2003 - The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) has named Richard C. Pierce, CPCU, AAI, of GMAC Insurance its 2003 Company Representative of the Year. The award was presented September 6, 2003 during a ceremony in Milwaukee, Wisconsin held in conjunction with a national PIA board of directors meeting.

Pierce is Vice President and Senior Marketing Manager for the Mid-Atlantic region for GMAC Insurance.

The annual PIA National Company Representative of the Year Award honors one outstanding company representative for outstanding service to professional insurance agents, the insurance industry and their community.

PIA National President Carl Stoecklin and incoming Vice President Ray Peretti presented the award. "Our winner has worked hard to understand how independent agencies operate," Peretti said.

"Rick Pierce has distinguished himself by always appreciating the exceptional value that independent agencies provide to their customers and to the carriers they represent," said Peretti. "He has said on many occasions that the PIA members with whom he deals are more than business associates; instead, they are more like family."

"Today, you have truly honored me beyond words," said Pierce. "I want to thank each of you for the privilege of being a part of PIA and this wonderful insurance industry."

Pierce is an enthusiastic supporter of PIA state organizations within his territory, which includes North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina and Georgia. He began his career with GMAC in 1982 as an operations analyst. Pierce graduated from Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina in 1981.

Pierce was nominated for the national honor by PIA of Virginia & D.C.

Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association which represents member insurance agents and their employees in all 50 states and Puerto Rico who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses.
