WASHINGTON, March 29, 2004 - Ronald N. Silverman, CIC, CISR, was named 2004 Professional Agent of the Year by the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents during an awards luncheon on March 27, 2004 in Arlington, Virginia. Silverman is past president of PIA of Florida and principal of the Silverman Insurance Agency of Deltona, Florida.

Silverman was honored for his tireless work in behalf of professional insurance agents, his commitment to the highest standards of professionalism in his industry, his active leadership in PIA and his dedication to his community.

"This year's winner exemplifies the qualities to which all of us aspire," said PIA National President Carl G. Stoecklin. "Ron Silverman's dedication to the betterment of professional insurance agents and the growth of the agency system stand as a testament to the best in all of us. Ron is truly a deserving recipient of this honor bestowed by his colleagues."

Silverman has held every office in PIA of Florida from board member in the mid 1990's through secretary/treasurer, vice president and president-elect, culminating in the presidency in 2002.

"Ron Silverman's contributions have been vitally important to the success of PIA of Florida," said PIA of Florida Executive Vice President Mark O'Connell. "Anyone who has followed PIA of Florida over the past two to three years is well aware of the dramatic growth we have achieved during that period. Ron inspired us with his can-do attitude and his desire to get everyone to recognize the real value we offer to agents."

"Ron Silverman stands as a shining example of how much of a difference one person can make to our association," O'Connell said.

Silverman places a high value on education in his agency, which pays all education and travel expenses for any of its employees participating in approved education and training programs. In addition, Ron demonstrates the value he places on education through his active role as both student and instructor. He teaches all five CISR courses throughout Florida and the Caribbean, in addition to PIA of Florida's E&O course. In addition, he has also written a new ethics course in response to a new mandate by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation and has authored several articles for professional periodicals to promote the understanding of complex insurance topics.

Active in his community, Ron is a member of Toastmasters, his local Chamber of Commerce and the West Volusia County Association of Realtors. He is a supporter of the United Way and the American Cancer Society. He is also a passionate supporter of the American Diabetes Association - as a diabetic himself, he does everything he can to promote the knowledge of what it is and how to deal with it.

Silverman was nominated for the 2004 PIA National Professional Agent of the Year award by PIA of Florida, which honored him as statewide Agent of the Year for 2003.

Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses.
