WASHINGTON, April 23, 2004 - The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) received honors for a membership marketing project from the Professional Insurance Communicators of America (PICA). The second place award in the national competition for Best Company Promotional Project was presented April 20 during the PICA annual meeting in Las Vegas.

PIA National Gridiron Greats presents the organizational structure and all of the stakeholders in PIA as a football program. Components of PIA - members, leaders, staff, affiliates, business partners - were all assigned to positions that generally corresponded with similar positions on an NFL football team. The functions of each were then described. The campaign was designed to educate members of PIA about how their association operates and to assist PIA state and regional affiliates in their membership recruitment efforts.

"After reading this, the organization doesn't seem quite so complex," said the PICA evaluation. "A better picture of who and what you are emerges. This isn't the standard organizational chart method. Very nice job of educating association members on how the association operates, the responsibilities and duties of stakeholders and the definition of related and semi-autonomous groups. What a unique piece - very cool!"

First place honors in the competition went to United Life Insurance Company and third place recognition was given to the American Association of Insurance Services (AAIS). 

"This prestigious award is a well deserved recognition of the creativity, talent and innovation of our national staff," said PIA Executive Vice President Len Brevik. "PIA National Gridiron Greats compellingly tells the story of the best association for professional, independent insurance agents in the nation: PIA."

In 2003, PIA Connection, the monthly publication of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents, was named Best Print Publication by PICA in its national competition.

Founded in 1956, PICA is an organization of insurance industry communications professionals dedicated to the continuing education and development of its members and the positive promotion of the insurance industry.

Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses.
