Surpassing its goal by nearly 50 percent, the New Jersey Young Insurance Professionals presented Special Olympics New Jersey with a check for $141,580 as part of the closing ceremony during its 21st annual Fun Run held Tuesday, June 7, 2005. More than 135 runners took part in the 5-kilometer event, which was part of the Professional Insurance Agents of New Jersey Inc. and the Professional Insurance Agents of New York State Inc.'s Joint Annual Conference at Bally's Atlantic City.

First place awards were presented to Brian McMahon, McMahon Insurance Agency, who timed in at 19:58; and Nancy Connolly, Heritage Insurance Agency, who crossed the finish line in 21:25.  Since 1984, NJYIP and PIANJ have raised nearly $1.9 million for Special Olympics New Jersey. The money helps to purchase equipment for training and competitions for SONJ athletes.
