PIA National President Donna Pile was the subject of a profile article in this week's edition of BestWeek. Pile said the most serious threat to insurance agents today comes out of the broker disclosure and contingent commission area. "I don't think consumers ever thought that agents worked for free," Pile said. "I also don't think your average professional insurance agent has been party to any of these transactions that have created problems at the broker level, but we are certainly seeing the fallout from that."

Asked about PIA's opposition to the federalization of insurance regulation, Pile observed that "I don't see any advantages to the optional federal charter bill. Our present system is not broken, and when something's not broken, there's no need to try to fix it. There's always room for improvement, but it has not failed. We need more states on the Interstate Compact, we need improvements in licensing. [But] it's illogical to assume that a federal bureaucracy would be as efficient or more effective."
