PIA National Immediate Past President Donna Pile shared some thoughts as she neared the completion of her term as president of PIA National, during remarks to the PIA National Board of Directors on September 16, 2007 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

"I think PIA has had a stellar year," Pile said. "I believe we are continuing our ascent to the goals we set when we originally decided to change the course of this association. There are a lot of people to thank for that, but mostly each of you, our directors, everybody who serves on a committee, the committee chairs, this wonderful board and last but not least, this amazing staff that we have at National. I believe that we have one of the most exemplary staffs, the most hard working, the most dedicated and having worked with them this year personally, I am in awe of the ability they have to produce at such a high level. Thank you, because you're priceless."

"During this year, we have filed an amicus brief and established an emergency justice fund for that effort. We thank all of our members and affiliates who contributed to that emergency justice fund. Your money and PIA's efforts have been rewarded in recent court decisions." (see item #1 above).

"Our branding campaign was released this year, and as you all know, it has become a great success. Our carriers feel that they have a partnership with us to be able to help agents go out there and compete with the direct writers, the little lizards and everybody else with our Local Agents Serving Main Street America brand. Our members have a compelling campaign to help them bring new business to their agencies - and it doesn't cost them any extra, and it does not cost  our carriers extra to participate. It is truly a member benefit."

"We released Perpetuation Central from The Partnership this year. That was an outstanding deliverable and we feel imperative to our membership."

"We achieved, finally, our long-coveted E&O program."

"We had our largest and most successful Federal Legislative Summit."

"We had our first Young Insurance Professionals reception on a national level and began what we believe will be an ever-growing relationship with our young professionals across the United States who will allow not only the perpetuation of our agencies but of PIA."

"Our August Political Involvement and Advocacy month had its second year this year."

"We reestablished our Professional Insurance Agents Insurance Foundation. As its first act upon reestablishment, the foundation gave a $50,000 grant to NCOIL to help finance its landmark study on state insurance regulation. We feel very proud of PIA's participation."

"We co-hosted with the Florida Insurance Council a panel on natural catastrophes in Florida that was groundbreaking; I commend Robert Page, Brian Marino and Mark O'Connell for their hard work. Our task force on Agency Ownership has completed its important work and I'd like to thank Rick Russell and Susan Sallada for their fantastic work. I know generations of agents will be ever grateful for this document."

"While all these things look like they have occurred during my year, they didn't start in my year," Pile concluded. "I just happened to be 'on watch' when these great pieces of work were rolled out. All the things that have happened this year are a concerted effort by all of us over the last several years to be able to reach this point in PIA's Strategic Long Range Plan. I commend all of you for working together for the benefit of many in order to be able to present to the insurance community our very best foot forward. Ladies and gentlemen, with your collective knowledge and expertise, there is nothing we cannot accomplish. Thank you for a sterling year."
