PIA of Minnesota issued the following statement in its weekly newsletter, regarding the tragic collapse of a major bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis:

"As you read this week's Agent Focus Fax, our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the collapse of the 35W Bridge in Minneapolis. As the search for missing motorists continues and the number of victims is yet to be determined, we hope that each of you, your families and your agency staff are all safe. While it is too early to assess the effect of the tragedy from an insurance perspective, insurers can expect to see claims ranging from life, health and disability to auto comprehensive and collision, commercial property, worker's compensation and business interruption coverage."

The insurance industry is vowing to take care of any claims arising out of the Minneapolis bridge collapse tragedy without delay. "There will be no exclusions - it will all be coverable. The industry wants to take care of this in a timely manner," said Mark Kulda, vice president of public relations for the Insurance Federation of Minnesota.
