PIA National President Jon D. Spalding addressed the board of directors of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) on Wednesday September 22, during the group's annual convention in San Diego. Spalding emphasized the common ground between PIA and NAMIC.

"For those of you who don't know it, the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents was founded in 1931 as an association of mutual insurance agents," Spalding said. "In fact, the name of our association from its founding in 1931 until 1976 was the National Association of Mutual Insurance Agents. PIA remains true to its roots and to this day strongly supports our mutual insurance carriers."

"PIA also shares NAMIC's outlook on our industry and the threats that both of us face," Spalding said. "Like NAMIC, PIA is a steadfast supporter of state regulation of insurance. Every one of you competes in multiple state markets, providing a phenomenal benefit to consumers. You also help provide a good living for our agents. Our interests are aligned."
