Preparations Underway for 2012 PIA Federal Legislative Summit

Preparations are underway for the 2012 PIA Federal Legislative Summit (FLS)
February 14, 2012

Preparations are underway for the 2012 PIA Federal Legislative Summit (FLS). With this being a pivotal election year and many insurance-related issues before Congress, it is a good time for PIA members to invest in the future with a trip to Capitol Hill.

“This year’s 2012 PIA Federal Legislative Summit in March will be a vital forum for agents around the country,” said PIA National President Thomas C. Adderhold. “There are a host of issues that are important to us currently in play on Capitol Hill. An example is the flood insurance program. Do you realize that lawmakers have been kicking the can down the road with short-term extensions of the National Flood Insurance Program since 2002? That’s a decade. The good news is that Congress is now closer than ever to finally passing a comprehensive reform bill with a full five-year reauthorization. Now, our efforts are needed to help push it over the finish line.”

The FLS begins on March 21 with a legislative briefing for participants, held at the Marriott Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia, PIA’s headquarters hotel. The following morning, March 22, participants will begin their day with a breakfast program featuring remarks by PIA leaders and Members of Congress, followed by a full day of scheduled meetings with lawmakers in their Capitol Hill offices. At day’s end, a reception will be held, followed by the annual fundraising and awards dinner of the PIA Political Action Committee (PIAPAC).
