This is the time of the year when PIA of Texas President Tom Sorrels is very busy. In addition to running his insurance agency in Tyler, Texas and presiding over the PIA affiliate in the Lone Star State, Tom has a special alter ego. He’s Santa Claus. In addition to being a prominent member and leader of PIA, Tom is a member of the Fraternal Order of Real Bearded Santas (FORBS). Yes, there truly is an association for everything!

“This year, I will do a tree lighting ceremony for the city of Tyler, a Christmas parade in Bullard Texas, a Christmas Parade in Whitehouse, Texas,” Tom wrote in an article in PIA Connection. “I’ve also become qualified for work with the Hospice of East Texas. I am registered with Santas of America, which provides Santas for hospice, but I am more interested in Santa work on military bases and work with the Wounded Warrior project.”

Back in his real business, Tom admits that customers come in and are a bit surprised to see Santa working in an insurance office — but it is a treat for their kids. “I tell the children that, ‘You never know WHERE Santa will turn up!’ It keeps them quiet during the sales process!”

Santa Sorrels says, “It’s all about the children. Oh, one last thing: HO! HO! HO!”
