Although the month of August is called a “congressional recess,” most members of Congress will be back in their home districts. Each year during August, PIA turns the focus of its advocacy to the home districts of elected representatives. That’s why we designate August as Political Involvement and Advocacy Month — PIA Month.

The focal point of PIA’s activities is District Lobbying Day (DLD) on August 20, 2013.

Far from being ‘dead time,’ August is prime time for Main Street insurance agents to spend some time with their Congressional representatives, and those seeking office. This is also an excellent time to engage in the kind of relationship-building that pays dividends in the future. We realize that not all of our August congressional visits can be scheduled exactly on DLD. Therefore, we encourage all PIA members to get involved at some point during the summer congressional recess.

PIA has many resources available on our website at www.pianet.com/grassroots/pia-district-lobbying-day to help you have successful visits on DLD and throughout August. Our strategy is to remain fully engaged with our federal lawmakers, all the time.
