As a PIA member you have access to a number of products, services, tools and other member benefits. Many of these are provided by PIA state affiliate associations. Many are also made available directly from PIA’s national office. Below we’ve highlighted a few new member benefits that PIA National made available to PIA members in 2012.

One new PIA member benefit that all PIA members should be aware of is “Closing the Gap — Growth & Profit.” This new tool — created by The PIA Partnership, PIA’s national company council — helps PIA members grow the size and profitability of their personal lines books of business. Using the tool’s calculators, agencies can project and plan for new business growth and profitability on a five year basis. Agencies can also use these tools to calculate projected auto and homeowner premium and commission by customer type — comparing various ways in which their own retention rates, premium rates and commissions factor into agency profitability. Using the calculators, agencies can create “what if” scenarios to see how adjusting factors such as retention, sales goals and account-rounding can affect their bottom-line results. Another PIA member benefit that became available to members in 2012 is PIA’s partnership with Agoragate (pronounced “AGRA gate”). Because 70% of insurance buyers begin their search for insurance on the web, Agoragate has built a web system that attracts people conducting online insurance searches. It then introduces them to local, independent insurance agents who write the type of insurance they are searching for. By participating in the Agoragate program, PIA members can be featured on pages that rank highly in Google and other search engines. The PIA Agency Preparedness and Recovery Plan was completely updated in 2012. This resource is designed as a planning guide and notebook for use by PIA member agencies in creating and documenting their own agency preparedness plans. In 2012 PIA National also launched a new website and a new Grassroots Action Leader program, released the 2012 PIA National Agency Marketing Guide and revamped our shipping discount program with UPS so that PIA members can save more money.
