December 16, 2015

Beginning December 12, 2015, the state of Alabama requires proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency for all insurance agent licensees. This new requirement applies to both first-time applicants and licensees seeking renewal, and it applies to both resident and non-resident applicants for licensing in Alabama.

What It Means to Agents: All persons applying for an agent license in Alabama, or renewing an existing license, need to provide documentation proving legal status in the United States. See this Q-and-A prepared by PIA National for additional details and links to acceptable forms of proof. For additional questions, contact Lauren Pachman, Counsel and Director of Regulatory Affairs at PIA National, at laurenpa@pianet.org or (703) 518-1344.
