This week, the Flood Insurance Producers National Committee (FIPNC) will meet at the PIA National headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. PIA National President Richie Clements is currently the chairman of FIPNC. The meeting is part of quarterly week-long industry meetings focused on how to improve the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

Participants in this week's series of flood insurance-related meetings include PIA National, the flood committee of the Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Federal Insurance & Mitigation Administration (FIMA), the NFIP and representatives of Write Your Own (WYO) insurance carriers that participate in the NFIP. The specific industry groups were established as Advisory Groups by FEMA/NFIP many years ago. This allows the federal agency to gather more "real world" suggestions in how the program and insurance persons that participate in actively writing NFIP business can work more productively and successfully in writing, processing and servicing NFIP business.

Discussions this week will focus on "What's Next" for the NFIP, as Superstorm Sandy claims reviews and settlements move toward completion and FEMA/FIMA has reorganized with new leadership. We will have a report on the results of these meetings next week.
