PIA Centro de la Comunidad de Agentes Latinos Now Open to Serve Hispanic Agents

WASHINGTON, October 27, 2005  - The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents today debuted a Spanish language website to provide additional service to members of the association whose primary language is Spanish or who do business in Hispanic markets.

The PIA Latino Agents Community Center (Centro de la Comunidad de Agentes Latinos) is an integral part of PIA's website featuring key material in Spanish, including information on member benefits, products and services, as well as news updates and grassroots action alerts. Going forward, PIA National will be producing additional materials to assist those who market their products to Spanish-speaking clients across the United States.

"PIA is an association made up of local insurance agents who help local people in their communities," said PIA of Florida President Sergio Gonzalez. "The Hispanic market is the fastest-growing market segment in America, and PIA is the nation's fastest-growing agents association. Our new website in Spanish is another way PIA provides service to its members."

The decision to offer an expanded level of communication in Spanish to agents who do business in Spanish-speaking communities was made by PIA leaders, who point to more than a decade of work by the association to encourage marketing of insurance products to minority communities. Beginning in 1994, PIA conducted a series of industry summits culminating with the publication in 1996 of the landmark study, Doing Business with The New Insurance Consumer.  Among its findings: minority populations will be the fastest growing segment of American society, requiring the insurance industry to rethink its marketing and underwriting strategies; and minorities and women are closing the income gap between them and white males.

Members of a focus group of Spanish-speaking PIA agents from Florida, New Jersey and Puerto Rico served as consultants in the development of  PIA's Centro de la Comunidad de Agentes Latinos.

"Throughout our history, PIA has been known as the friendly agents association that means business," said PIA President Ray Peretti. "It is appropriate that we take this extra step to extend our hands in friendship to our colleagues who do business in Spanish."

The PIA Latino Agents Community Center is now open at http://www.PIANET.com/AgentesLatinos/.

Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses. PIA will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2006.
