WASHINGTON, April 15, 2005  - Carter A. "Cap" Peterson of Wayne, Nebraska was named 2005 Professional Agent of the Year by the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents during an awards luncheon on April 9, 2005 in Arlington, Virginia.

Peterson was honored for his tireless work on behalf of professional insurance agents, his commitment to the highest standards of professionalism in his industry, his active leadership in PIA and his dedication to his community.

"Cap Peterson has spent the last quarter-century building an outstanding agency - and at the same time, he has served the insurance industry through his active involvement in PIA," said PIA National President Terry Adams. "Our winner is a shining example of the core values that all of us as PIA members hold dear. He makes us all proud."

Peterson has served on the Board of PIA of Nebraska since the late 1980's. He served two terms as President of PIA of Nebraska, and was selected the Nebraska Agent of the Year three times.

"We all know Cap through his current service," said PIA of Nebraska Executive Vice President Sharon Dooley. "Less well known is the fact that Cap has used his talent and formal training as an educator to promote the insurance industry by teaching relevant courses at the college and high school levels. A number of promising young people have entered the insurance profession as a result of Cap's influence during their education."

In December 2004, Peterson was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges by Nebraska Governor Dave Heinman.

"There are some members of our association who can be accurately described as being "'PIA to the Core,'" Adams said. "They are agents who are always there to help their fellow agents by their involvement in PIA. Cap Peterson is someone who has always been, 'PIA to the Core.'"

Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses. PIA will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2006.
