WASHINGTON, April 20, 2006  - Steve Standridge of Mt. Ida, Arkansas was named the 2006 Professional Agent of the Year by the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents during an awards luncheon on April 8, 2006 in Arlington, Virginia.

Standridge was honored for his tireless work on behalf of professional insurance agents, his commitment to the highest standards of professionalism in his industry, his active leadership in PIA and his dedication to his community.

Standridge established the Standridge Insurance Agency in 1982, starting with one small office and one employee. By 2006, his business had grown to 19 offices.

"Steve's agency has been the #1 agency in the nation with State Auto Insurance for 3 years," said PIA National President Ray Peretti, who presented the award. "He is #1 in the nation with 2 other of his companies, and #2 with several others."

Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R) sent a letter of congratulations to Standridge to be read as part of the PIA presentation.

"Our winner has influenced 27 agencies to join PIA," Peretti said. "He served on his state PIA board for four years, two of them as Treasurer. He was his state's Agent of the Year in 2000. Steve Standridge is an outstanding agent who exemplifies the best of what it means to be a PIA Agent."

Founded in 1931, and celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2006, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses. PIA members are Local Agents Serving Main Street America.
