WASHINGTON – The Warwick Resource Group has received the 2014 Excellence in Social Media Award from the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA). The award was presented September 19, 2014, during a gala ceremony in San Antonio, Texas, held in conjunction with PIA’s Fall Governance meetings.

“Ten years ago, social media was only an idea,” said PIA National Vice President/Treasurer Robert W. Hansen, Jr. “Today, social media is a key element in the battle by independent agents against the direct writers. One of the first groups to embrace social media was independent insurance agents. That should be no surprise. Agents are always on the cutting-edge — especially when it helps us serve our clients.”

The annual PIA National Excellence in Social Media Award, inaugurated in 2010, is given to honor a PIA member insurance agency for excellence in the use of social media in a business setting.

Agency principals Keith and Richard Savino have a well-deserved reputation for being industry leaders in technology. Warwick Resource Group has always viewed social media as an extension of its relationship with its clients — and a local presence — not a technology play.

“Keith and Richard embraced social media, not as a means of selling insurance, but as a way to create a relationship with their clients and their communities,” Hansen said. “And as industry leaders, they have been generous in sharing their insights and expertise with their fellow agents.”

The 2014 PIA National Excellence in Social Media Award was sponsored by the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR), which is proud to bring attention to the fact that it now offers individual non-resident licensing and renewals for all 50 states.

“It’s natural for NIPR to sponsor PIA’s Excellence in Social Media Award,” said Karen Hornig, the new executive director of NIPR, during remarks at the award ceremony. “An agent must do what a customer needs. In 1914, that meant an agent went door to door collecting premiums and selling policies. In 2014, it means using social media as a tool to continue to serve Main Street America.”

Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses.
