WASHINGTON – The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) praises the U.S. House of Representatives for passing bipartisan legislation that extends the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) for six years. The vote was an overwhelming 416-5. The bill also includes a provision that benefits Main Street insurance agents, the National Association of Registered Agents and Brokers (NARAB II).

“PIA commends the House’s passage of a long-term TRIA extension,” said PIA National Executive Vice President & CEO Mike Becker. “This legislation provides the certainty that America’s businesses and insurance consumers need. We urge the Senate to pass this bill without delay.”

“We applaud the newly sworn-in House for recognizing the critical need for a long-term reauthorization of TRIA by passing this bill as its first order of business,” said PIA National Director of Federal Affairs Jon Gentile. “The House is off to a good start, and the Senate should quickly follow suit.”

Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses. PIA members are Local Agents Serving Main Street AmericaSM. PIA’s web address is www.pianet.com.
