December 5, 2007 - Motorists Mutual Insurance Company will provide all of its commercial customers in five states with a Security Breach Response service at no additional cost.

The service, which can help businesses respond to customer notification requirements in the event of a security breach resulting from situations such as a stolen laptop, will be added to all Motorists business insurance accounts in early 2008.

Motorists is one of the first insurance companies to offer such a service to commercial customers in the Midwest.

The service will help companies insured with Motorists to notify customers when credit card numbers, bank account information, Social Security numbers and other personal information held by a business is lost, stolen or inadvertently published.  The cause can be the result of "hacking" into a computer system, theft of files or a laptop computer, procedural or fraud-related.

In addition to the Security Breach Response service, Motorists' program will include the following services for commercial customers' business owners, officers, directors and employees:

  • expediting replacement of documents lost while traveling, such as
    passports, visas, drivers licenses
  • protection for financial, credit and identity data during a move;
    replacement of documents lost while relocating, such as birth certificates or Social Security cards
  • help for patients who become identity theft victims as a result of
    the fraudulent use of medical information
  • disaster recovery services for victims of natural disasters, such as
    a hurricane, tornado, or fire
  • estate identity safeguards
  • identity theft resolution services similar to those offered to
    Motorists homeowner policy customers

"Motorists is among the leaders in offering this critical service to our commercial customers," said John J. Bishop, chairman, president and CEO of The Motorists Insurance Group.  "The service will help individuals who are affected by a business security breach, and it will help our customers comply with notification laws."
