WASHINGTON — The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) has praised passage by the United States Senate of the Protecting Affordable Coverage for Employers (PACE) Act (S. 1099). The legislation would enable states to keep the current definition of a small group market in health insurance at 50 or fewer employees. PIA actively lobbied for passage of the bill, which was approved by voice vote in the Senate on Oct.1 and by unanimous consent in the House on Sept. 28.

“PIA thanks the Senate for joining the House in approving this important legislation,” said PIA National Executive Vice President & CEO Mike Becker. “This bill will allow small and mid-sized businesses to continue to provide affordable healthcare coverage to their employees, without interference by the federal government. It will mitigate premium increases and market disruption. We urge President Obama to sign it without delay”

PIA joined with a coalition of groups including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in support of the PACE Act.

Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses.
